Medical Acupuncture Therapy!

Medical acupuncture is a modern treatment approach founded in concepts of neurology, anatomy and physiology. Similar to traditional Chinese acupuncture, medical acupuncture involves the strategic placement of sterile needles into various locations in the body.

The major differences between the two forms of acupuncture is that medical acupuncture often uses a low frequency (2-8Hz) electrical stimulation on the needles, and the selection of acupuncture points is based both on the traditional Chinese approach as well as including points that are anatomically and neurologically connected to your specific source of pain.

Medical  acupuncture has been shown to have beneficial results by inducing muscle relaxation, modulating pain, altering your neuroendocrine responses and changing you autonomic activity (fight or flight response) resulting in an overall relaxation and a feeling of well-being.

Moxibustion Therapy

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years; in fact, the actual Chinese character for acupuncture, translated literally, means "acupuncture-moxibustion." The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health.

In traditional Chinese medicine, moxibustion is used on people who have a cold or stagnant condition. The burning of moxa is believed to expel cold and warm the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of blood and qi.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a form of bodywork or alternative therapy focused primarily on the concept of "primary respiration" and regulating the flow of cerebrospinal fluid by using therapeutic touch to manipulate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium.

To do this, a practitioner will apply light touches to a patient's skull, face, spine and pelvis. CranioSacral Therapy is non-invasive, therefore it allows correction without pain unlike some other therapies.

It is gentle but very powerful and is suitable for many conditions:

"Hilot" Therapy

Hilot is Philippine traditional massage, which has been practised for generations. Banana leaves are used in detecting the areas with imbalance or negative energy, called 'lamig,' and that’s where the hilot (therapeutic massage) will be focused,”

More on this mysterious lamig (direct translation: cold).  There should be a balance between the cold and the hot energies. It’s similar to ‘chi’ in Chinese medicine, where free-flowing energy and balance is also sought.”

hilot  involves heat, banana leaves, bentosa (suctioning cups), and a healing massage with slow, deliberate strokes. “Banana leaves are warmed, placed on skin, and amazingly, start to stick to the area where negative energy is concentrated. That’s where the therapist will focus the massage on.

“Hilot is all about pressure, and they expertly applied just the right pressure. It was also nice how they covered your body with banana leaves that kept your body in the right temperature. Warm banana leaf strips laced with coconut oil are often run over the body to clear energy blockages, as banana leaves contain both medicinal and herbal elements and are a natural ionizer. Banana leaves also have an antiseptic effect and have been used to help treat illnesses from the flu to sprains and even bone dislocations.

Hilot is recommended to those who are stressed, looking for relaxation and foreigners looking to experience a traditional Filipino massage.

What sets our hilot service apart from other massage therapies is that it is done with slow, deliberate strokes, it addresses the Filipino concept of lamig, and there is also a level of spirituality. The therapist has the intention of healing.
